DIGIBIZ 2009 Workshop Program
W2 Workshop on Modelling Business Negotiations
Organizers
- Volker Hoyer, University of St. Gallen and SAP Research, Switzerland
- Jason Finnegan, Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT),
Ireland
Objectives
Today’s organizations are changing with respect to both organizational and technological perspective. Recent organization forms have emerged from small, isolated business over centralized corporate hierachies to loosely coupled networks. Enabled by open and standardized information technologies in the Future Internet, enterprises perform business transactions electronically and benefit by extending market research, saving time, cutting costs and responding to customer queries agilely.
The process of business negotiations of complex products or services is an essential binding element in these dynamic global digital markets. However, in most commercial negotiation environments the network of intermediaries and suppliers is static and centrally regulated. New research and concepts are required to cover the lucrative long tail of business negotiations that can be configured during the design and run time accoding to individual business needs.
The goal of this workshop is to provide a platform for discussing research
topics underlying the concepts of modelling business negotiations. By bringing
together representatives of academia and industry, the workshop is also an important
venue for identifying new research problems and disseminating results of the
research. In particular, we will also invite participants of an evaluation contest
organized by the Open Negotiation Environment (ONE) project where the participants
will be empowered to model and execute their individual negotiations.

Topics of interest for the workshop include, but are not limited to, the following:
